Local Professional Earns Prestigious "Healthy Materials Advocate" Certification from Parsons School of Design
Houston, TX - April 27, 2025 - Conscious Healthy Home is proud to announce the successful completion of the rigorous Healthy Materials program developed by Parsons' Healthy Materials Lab at The New School, earning the distinguished credential of "Healthy Materials Advocate."
This comprehensive certification program equips architects and designers with the knowledge and methodologies to select healthier building materials while considering both cost implications and sustainability goals. The credential represents 8 AIA CEU (HSW) and 8 IDCEC CEU (HSW) hours of professional development.
"The Healthy Materials program has transformed my understanding of how building materials impact human health," said Greenfield. "I'm now better prepared and resourced to identify and advocate for healthier product alternatives and implement practical strategies that benefit both occupants and everyone involved in the construction process."
The program consisted of in-depth learning experiences covering critical relationships between building materials, chemical toxicity, and environmental exposures. Participants learned to evaluate building products against established health criteria and set human health design goals early in the project lifecycle.
Led by experts in materials science, design, sustainability, and public health, the curriculum addressed:
Building material health implications within environmental and human health contexts
Chemical toxicity identification and exposure pathways
Life cycle assessment of materials
Indoor air quality improvement strategies
Material health standards, regulations, and reporting systems
Integrated design processes for healthier buildings
Implementation practices for contractors and maintenance teams
This certification enhances Conscious Healthy Home's commitment to creating healthier built environments and positions the firm as a leader in the growing movement toward healthier, more sustainable design practices.
